Hajj case: Court directs deputy AG to present Asghar Khan

Hajj case: Court directs deputy AG to present Asghar Khan ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan heard the Hajj corruption case here on Wednesday. The 3-member bench was headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary. Deputy attorney general apprised the court that an officer was commissioned to take punitive action against police officer Asghar Khan, who had violated orders and abstained from rejoining the investigation into Hajj corruption scam. Upon hearing the deputy attorney general comments, the CJP remarked that the dignity of the apex court should be compromised and it should not be treated as a civil court. He asked if it was even possible for a civil servant to deliberately avoid when summoned by the court. The CJP directed the deputy attorney general to make Asghar appear before the court tomorrow, otherwise issue his suspension orders. The CJP said that in stark contrast to our expectations nothing has been achieved with the appointment of new attorney. During the hearing, Justice Jawad Khawaja remarked that the matter was very straight forward, adding that it was never about someone’s persona rather about upholding writ of the government. Justice Khawaja said that the government should ensure implementation of Section 10 of the Civil Servant Act. The court than summoned the attorney general of Pakistan on immediate basis.
