ECP rolls out voter lists to the public

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan in close collaboration with the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) finalized voter lists public here on Tuesday. 

Speaking to media representatives here, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim said the people wanted a change and that the ECP would do its best so that no objections could be raised over its role during the elections.

He said that the voter lists were prepared in a fair and transparent manner by competent NADRA officials, adding that owing to transparency the lists would not become a bone of contention. 

Ebrahim moreover said that no one would be able to vote without a computerised national identity card, adding that, the minimum voting age was 18 years.

The CEC said that the public could now get information on voting simply by sending an SMS message.

Ebrahim said the ECP and Nadra’s use of latest technology in its operations was commendable, adding that, changes could still be made to voter lists.

He further said that 843, 60000 voters had been registered following a door to door campaign for vote verification. 

CEC said that voter lists were prepared with close collaboration from NADRA officials, adding that everything was done with consensus.
