ISLAMABAD: In the backdrop of the new contempt of court law struck down by the apex court, chief of coalition partners assembled at the Presidency here on Friday.  

According to details, the meeting chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari and was attended by heads of all coalition partners. 

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, PML-Q Chief Chaudhary Shujaat Husain, MQM’s Farooq Sattar, Munir Orakzai from the ANP and other renowned leaders were among those who participated in the meeting.

During the meeting discussion pivoted around the contempt of court act being struck down by the Supreme Court along with the looming energy crisis in the country. 

After deliberation, it was decided that there will be no compromise on the sovereignty of parliament.

According to a communiqué released by the Presidency, “The right of legislation has only been given to the elected representatives of the people by the Constitution. There will be no compromise on this right.” 

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf briefed the assembly over energy crisis. The president ordered to expedite the Munda Dam Project by removing all hurdles in its completion.

According to the presidential spokesman, the meeting also decided to deal with extortionists and criminal elements with iron hand and resolve issues faced by the business community.
