ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Monday issued a show-cause notice to Faisal Raza Abidi following the tirade which he launched against Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary and his son Arsalan Iftikhar in a press conference yesterday. 

During Abidi’s press conference, he distributed copies of the bank statements of a company, ‘F&A Enterprises’, allegedly owned by the son of CJP Arsalan Iftikhar carrying the address of his official residence.

The senator had also criticised the Supreme Court for nullifying the recently-passed contempt of court law and termed it part of a plan to brew contention between two state organs. 

The show-cause notice was issued to Senator Abidi by PPP Secretary General, Jahangir Badar.

The notice sent to Senator Abidi demands a explanation of the press briefing held on August 05 during which Abidi said that contempt cases against Babar Awan, Sharjeel Memon and Taj Haider were pending in the courts, adding that the court hurriedly processed against the ex-premier Yousaf Raza Gilani and sent him home.  

While talking to media, Senator Abidi acknowledged the receipt of the show cause notice and said he would respond to it soon. 

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Pakistan also took notice of the press statements by Abidi and demanded its record.
