KARACHI / PESHAWAR / ISLAMABAD / QUETTA: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting which met her at the metrological (met) department Saturday announced that Shawwal-ul-Mukarram moon was not sighted, adding that Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated in Pakistan on Monday.

The meeting of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chaired by Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman at the Met office and the four respective provincial zonal committees was convened for Shawwal moon sighting.

While talking to media, Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman announced that no credible testimonies were received, adding that Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated across Pakistan on Monday, August 20, 2012.

According to details, a non-official assemblage of local religious scholars headed by Maulan Shahabudin Papulzai and Maulana Khair-ul-Bashar was also underway at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan in Peshawar.

In district Karak, the zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committee meeting was also underway presided by the District Coordination Officer (DOC) flanked by the local religious cadre.

While the zonal committees in Quetta, Karachi, Islamabad, and Peshawar did not sight the Shawwal moon, Masjid Qasim Ali Khan of Peshawar received three unofficial testimonies of Shawwal moon sighting. The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Information, Abdul Jaleel Jan also testified before the representatives at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan of sighting the Shawwal moon.

The zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committee in Peshawar also received six testimonies of moon citing while unofficial local committee in district Mardan received 14 such indications from different parts of the province.
