Mobile service maybe suspended on Eid first day
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik Sunday said that cellular service may be suspended for a couple of hours ahead of Eid prayers and during dusk on the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
While talking to newsmen, Malik the step to suspend mobile phone services would be taken due to a perceived threat of a terrorist attack in Lahore, Karachi and Multan. Mobile services would be blocked before Eid prayers and in some places in the evening, Malik added. He said that the service outage may last for two to two and a half hours.
He said that it cannot be determined at what specific time this could happen at, but apologised to the people for any inconvenience this could cause.
The interior minister said that these threats exist in certain areas of Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan and the law enforcement agencies have been notified. He said that no lapse of security will be tolerated.
