Dual nationality case: Malik submits ‘proof’ of renunciation
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik Wednesday submitted supporting documentation, a certificate as proof renunciation of British citizen in the Supreme Court.
According to details, in a reply the interior minister stated that he had renounced his British citizen prior to his selection as a Senator. He stated that he was using his green passport for travel, adding that the assertions that he (Malik) was carrying dual nationalities were unfounded.
Malik also submitted supporting documentation, and a certificate which was issued by concerned British lawyers as proof of renunciation of British citizenship.
He, therefore, requested the apex court to dispose of the objection pending against him in dual nationality case.
It is pertinent to mention that Malik’s certificate of renouncing UK nationality is dated May 12, 2012.
During one of the hearings, the court had noted that Malik had started his proceedings to renounce his British citizenship on May 29, 2012.
