PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court (PHC) while hearing the suo motu notice case of the young Afghan couple and directed the authorities to provide them with a safe place to live, clothes and food.

Chief Justice PHC, Justice Dost Muhammad heard the case here on Monday.

Haiwad and Maryam, eloped their native town in Afghanistan after marrying for fear of their lives.

During the hearing, the couple apprised the court that they came to Pakistan 25 days ago and took refuge in Abbotabad.

The claimant to the case and the brother of Abdur Rehman, Ishaq contested that Maryam was married to his brother Abdur Rehman and had two daughters Sana and Hasna. On the other hand, Maryam refuted the claims and said that it was her sister to whom the children belonged.

Chief Justice PHC expressed his displeasure over the three day delay on police part in registering a case. The couple was in police custody on July 16 but a case was registered on July 19.

The PHC then summoned SP Cantt and in-charge Darul-Aman.
