PESHAWAR: Despite the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee decision of not sighting Shawwal moon, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government announced to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday after the decision by zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committee recommendation.


Senior Provincial Minister, Bashir Ahmed Bilour, while talking to media said that the zonal committee had received credible witnesses but the central committee did not wait for the recommendations of the provincial committee. He said that after the decision by Pakhtunkhwa Ulema, he on behalf of Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti and the provincial government announced to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr across the province on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the unofficial assemblage convened at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan Saturday also announced to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday, August 19. The official zonal committee also agreed with the decision of Qasim Ali Khan mosque committee and asked the provincial government to announce Eid for Sunday. Mufti Habib ur Rehman, member Ruet-e-HIlal zonal committee was also present during the Qasim Ali assemblage. While talking to media, Administrator, Qasim Ali Khan mosque, Mualana Shahab ud din Papulzai said that they received 23 witnesses including one female and 22 male. To a question, he said that the moon sighting issue has been raised in the Senate and now the Senate has to take final decision about this issue. After the announcement by Qasim Ali Khan mosque committee of sighting the Shawwal moon, the Pakistanis would celebrate three Eid this year.

According to details, an unofficial committee meeting met at Masjid Qasim Ali and presided by Administrator, Masjid Qasim Ali Khan, Maulana Shahabudin Papulzai announced to celebrate Eid on Sunday following due deliberation and after receiving testimonies of 20 witnesses from various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA. The meeting was attended by religious scholars including JUI-F leader, Maulana Jaleel Jan and others. Ruet-e-Hilal zonal committee chief, Mufti Habib ur Rehman, who was also present in the Qasim Ali Khan mosque committee meeting announced of receiving 23 credible witness testimonies. He further said that the zonal committee was receiving the witnesses about moon sighting while the central committee announced its decision without consulting them. Therefore, he asked the provincial government to announce Eid for Sunday. The local unofficial committees in Bannu, Mardan and other districts of the province also announced sighting of the Shawwal moon. The Ulema in Mohmand and Bajaur Agencies have also announced to celebrate Eid on Sunday (Aug 19). The tribesmen in North Waziristan have already celebrated Eid on Saturday (Aug 18).
