PESHAWAR: The festival of Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with religious fervor in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a majority of the Muslim countries around the world here on Sunday. 

Last night, the KPK government opposed the decision of the central Ruet-e-Hilal committee and took cognizance of the unofficial Ruet committee which assembled in the Masjid Qasim Ali Khan. According to Administrator Masjid Qasim Ali Khan, Mufti Shahab uddin Popalzai, around 23 witnesses including 22 men and one woman submitted their ‘credible’ testimonies of Shawwal moon sighting. 

With breaking of the dawn, Namaz-e-Edain (Eid prayer) was offered throughout the province with the largest congregation of the faithful amassing on Charsadda road. Special arrangements were made to facilitate the worshippers besides a noticeable presence of police patrols around and throughout the province. 

Awami National Party (ANP), Central President, Senator Asfandiyar Wali, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti and other party leaders offered Eid prayer at chief minister secretariat. JUI-F Leader, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman offered Eid prayer in his native Dera Ismail Khan. Similarly, prayers were also offered in Kila Abdullah, and Chaman of Balochistan. In Swat, however, residents of certain areas were observing fast as they had announced to celebrate Eid with the federation. 

Meanwhile, the religious cadre of Hazara division and the leader of Hazara province Tehreek, Baba Haider Zaman, decided to celebrate Eid with the federation on Monday. 

Eid-ul-Fitr was also celebrated around the world today in countries including United Kingdom, United States, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, and others parts of European Union. 

Special prayers were offered beseeching the Almighty for assistance, forging unity amongst the Muslim Ummah, protection from threats and success in this world and the hereafter.
