Local bodies elections: Sindh govt files petition in SC against SHC decision

KARACHI: Sindh government has filed petition in the Sindh Registry of Supreme Court against the Sindh High Court decision for holding local bodies elections within 90-days, Khyber News reported.

Advocate General Sindh filed the petition. Comments of Chief Secretary Sindh have also been made part of the petition. 

Sindh government has requested in the petition that Election Commission of Pakistan is busy in preparation of electoral lists, census is also on the cards and it is the last Parliamentary year. Government of Sindh prefers general elections as per the constitution.

The chief secretary in his comments has also said political parties of Sindh are in process of consultation over the local government system and the issue has not been finalized. Keeping in view all the reasons, Sindh government could not hold local bodies elections in the current year. 

 The Sindh government has further said local bodies elections should be held under the new government to be established after general elections in 2013.
