Uniform load shedding throughout country, LHC rules

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday ruled that uniform electricity load-shedding be carried out in all four provinces including the residences of government officials and other dignitaries.

The court issued the ruling during the hearing of a petition filed by Advocate Azhar Siddique against blackouts during Sehri and Iftaar.

During the hearing, Chief Justice LHC Umar Ata Bandial ruled that all provinces should be subjected to the same duration of load shedding and that it should be uniform throughout the country.

In his petition, Siddique had stated that incidents of power theft were more frequent in other provinces as opposed to Punjab, adding that, consumers in Punjab were still paying more than those in other provinces.

The court moreover issued notices to the federal government, the Ministry for Water and Power and distribution companies for August 7.

The LHC citing media reports remarked that reports indicated that streets and residences of government officials and dignitaries were subjected to very little or no load shedding. LHC declared this attitude to be discriminatory and ruled uniform load shedding overall.
